Get A Perfect Finish Over an Old Floor

(c) Falcon Contract Floors

Removing and replacing old flooring can be a hassle, especially if the adhesive is tough. But here’s the good news—you don’t always need to pull up the old floor. If the existing floor is solid ceramic or vinyl tiles, here’s a straightforward process to save you time:

First, check the tiles: make sure they’re firmly stuck down with no cracks or damage.

Then prime and cover with a levelling and smoothing compound: use Active Prime Fix to prime the tiles, then apply a quality smoothing compound like Proflow MVS.

Proflow MVS is designed to deliver a smooth, level surface. It has an extended working time, making it easy to lay new flooring directly on top. It’s a two-part smoothing compound that’s highly flexible and sets quickly, allowing foot traffic in just 90 minutes and new floor coverings after 4 hours.

What sets Proflow MVS apart?

Its innovative formula acts as a moisture vapour suppressant (MVS), eliminating the need for a separate damp-proof membrane or MVS liquid. That means fewer steps, faster installation, and less hassle.

Dealing with Adhesive and Residues

If you’ve had to lift the old floor, chances are you’ll be left with adhesive or bitumen residues. Many smoothing compounds struggle with this, but Proflow MVS handles it with ease. It’s also great for use over asphalt, vinyl, ceramic tiles, calcium sulphate screeds, sand-and-cement screeds, and concrete.

Laying the New Flooring

Once the floor is smooth and ready, use Eco-3000 HT to install the floor covering. This high-temperature adhesive is perfect for a range of materials, including LVT, PVC, vinyl, carpets, and textiles. It’s ideal for areas like conservatories or spaces with lots of glass with a high temperature range.

With its quick tacking-off time, you can start laying flooring in as little as 10 minutes, once the adhesive becomes semi-tacked off and reaches its “anti-slide” state.
